Every time we hit the freezer section of the grocery store, it's a high drama showdown. Every person in the family wants a different flavor of ice cream. I have a big sweet tooth, and I can pretty much eat any type of ice cream, but I don't really care for mint, peanut butter, or that weird bubblegum crap. So naturally, those are the flavors my son chooses.
To put an end to the dessert wars, and stop wasting time and money on these supermarket showdowns, I decided to buy just one carton of plain vanilla ice cream, and one "topping" per person so that everyone can customize their own dessert. Crushed cookies, almonds, chocolate syrup, cereal, granola, graham crackers, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, and chopped candy bars all taste great with vanilla ice cream, and everyone gets to have their own ice cream without having a freezer full of half eaten tubs of flavors only one person likes.
